James Egan

Born in Long Island City, N.Y., he came here 15 years ago from Watertown, N.Y. He was a graduate of Newtown High School in New York City and held an associates degree from Cornell University where he played on there football team.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He owned and operated a dairy farm in North Bangor, N.Y. He retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Farmers Home Administration, at Watertown. Mr. Egan was president and member of the board of directors of the New York State Holstein Association, president and member of the executive directors of the Dairy Herd Improvement Cooperative, and served as a member of the Congressional Committee on Animal Health, Science and Research during two presidential terms.

He participated on the national agricultural panel. He was past president of Brushton Moria Central School Board of Education. He was an active member of Rotary International for 53 years, and past president of two Rotary clubs in New York.

Jim Egan was a member of the Kings Bay Rotary Club of Crystal River. He was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship and a benefactor. He was a faithful supporter and treasurer of the club’s Upward Bound Program.

He served as a director of the Boys & Girls Club, was a Teen Court counselor, served as a chaplain at Citrus Memorial hospital, was past president of the Kensington Estates Property Owners Association and was a member of the Crystal River United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Tarbell.

Survivors include his wife, Bette June Egan, of Lecanto; three sons, Dennis of North Bangor, N.Y., Blaine (Jennifer) of Vernal, Utah, and Keane of Waco, Texas; daughters, Gwen (Fred) of North Bangor, N.Y., and Sue of Wilton, N.Y.; a brother, Herbert (Judy) of Venice; a sister, Rosemary (Charles) of Marshall, Ohio; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Jim Egan was well traveled, the countries he visited are; China, England, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, Holland, Germany, France, Puerto Rico, All of the Providence of Canada, most of the States of the US including Alaska and Hawaii, and most of our National Parks.
